Hello my lovely readers 🙂 How’s everything going?
Today I want to share with you the end of my trip to Sevilla. On today’s blog post I want to share with you some pictures that I took at plaza de España, Santa Justa’s neighbourhood…
The same day after leaving the Alcazar, I went to Plaza de España. The plaza is a huge oval space, surrounded by a moat canal and resting below a great long pavilion that features an incredibly elaborate design full of tilework. It was created for the 1929 Ibero-American Fair, and it has a bench that represent the different provinces in Spain. It’s been used as a setting for films like Lawrence of Arabia or Star Wars.
The next day we walk around the Santa Cruz neighbourhood, with his narrow maze of historic streets is full of pretty yellow and white-painted buildings. Don’t get too worried about getting lost in here, that’s half the fun. Here’s a picture in which you can realise how narrow some of the streets are.
Then we visited the Basilica of the Macarena, where is the wooden statue of the Macarena, which dates from the 17th century. This wooden statue is carried around on the procession in the early morning of Good Friday, which is the largest, most popular, and fervent in the whole of Spain.
Finally to rest and finish our trip we went to a bar in a rooftop in order to relax.
Have you ever seen a procession in Spain? Did you visit Plaza de España?
xoxo Darly

I adore Spain, I lived and worked there for 5 years. I loved the Easter parade in our village of Benalmádena with the penitents in their hooded tunics and descalzados/barefooted. Having learned to ride a horse in Spain I used to ride in the August fiesta parade. We always got free food and drink for being ‘ cabalistas’ /horse riders. You have brought back wonderful memories of my time in Spain. Thank you. Carolyn xxX
