Hello my lovely readers 🙂 How’s everything going?
Today I want to share with you the pictures that I took in my San Sebastian trip. San Sebastian is a beautiful city in the north of Spain, really close to France. At the start of the 19th century, it became one of the most exciting cities in Europe that’s why it has a beautiful Romantic Area with a pronounced Parisian feel.
The first thing we saw was the María Cristina Bridge. Its fancy streetlights are inspired by the Alexander III Bridge in Paris.
Then we had a nice walk on the side of the river…
And we arrived to the Victoria Eugenia theatre which is where the San Sebastian film festival takes place.
During film festival all the celebrities stay at the Maria Cristina hotel. Hundreds of celebrities have stayed here, from Mata Hari and Bruce Springsteen to stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Gere, Brad Pitt… Of course I was just pretending to go in, I could never afford it 😂
Then we arrived to the boulevard, which is the borderline of the romantic area in San Sebastian. In it you can find this beautiful art noveau kiosk.
After we arrived to Gipuzcoa Square, a beautiful French-style garden from the 19th century. It has a nice lake with a small waterfall, beautiful swans and sculptures. A lot of people were just relaxing in this gardens or reading a book.
Finally we went to the the city hall, which when it was built it was a casino similar to the ones in the French riviera. Next to the casino there is this beautiful carousel that I couldn’t help taking some pictures with it.
Have you ever visited San Sebastian? Do you like Belle Époque architecture?

What a lovely post! That era and Art Nouveau are subjects I’ve studied quite a bit. You may be seeing posts about it (when I start blogging again after a very lazy summer — well, not lazy, but concentrating on other things). I have not yet been to see the Art Nouveau in Spain, but it’s definitely on my list. So far, I’ve concentrated more on France and Belgium, and a little of England. I’m saving your post. Thanks again.

Thank you 😊😊 I think you can mainly find it in cities in the North of Spain that were more influence by French architecture

Lovely photos. Perhaps one day I shall get there? While I live in the south of France, I am on the Mediterranean and it is near the Atlantic so it is nearly five hours west of me.
Thank you for following one of my blogs. 🙂
