HEALTHY TORRIJAS

Today I want to share with you a typical recipe from Spain that’s called “Torrijas” but a lighter and healthier version. In Spain it’s typical to eat them on father’s day. My mum made some the other day and I asked her to teach me, so I could show it to you.

The ingredients you need to make this delicious recipe are:

  • Milk
  • Bread (better if it’s soft)
  • Coating flour (or egg and average flour)
  • Egg
  • Artificial sweetener

First you should cut the bread making diagonal slices. Try to make them not too thin.

Then in a plate put some milk with artificial sweetener. Put a lot of sweetener because after when we cook them, a lot of the sweet flavour is going to go away. Then put the slices of bread in the milk and let them soak up as much milk as they can, then move them to a dry plate.

Then you can either sprinkle a special coating flour as I did. Or you can sprinkle them with average flour and then dip them in an egg mixture.

Finally put in a pan a bit of oil and cook them until they are roasted on both sides.

Finally if you want you can top them off with some cinnamon and icing sugar.

  1. Looks really good and simple. Two of my favorite things. The last dessert I made was an Apple Tart for the holidays, so I am overdue for a sweet treat. Thanks for the recipe.
